The management of several high-end hotels in Da Nang city have placed cargo containers in front of their entrance gates to prevent strong winds from Typhoon Haiyan from shattering glass windows.

Tourists staying in the resorts and hotels along Da Nang’s coast have been warned of the arrival of the storm and asked to move to safe areas.
In Quang Nam, residents living along the coast have dug underground sandbag bunkers to protect themselves from the typhoon, as well as to reduce storm damage to their property.
It was estimated that at least 50 underground sandbag bunkers have been built in Duy Xuyen district, Quang Nam province. Food, rice, instant noodle bags, fresh water, and blankets have been stored in the bunkers. The elderly and children have been given first priority to take shelter in them.
“After learning that Typhoon Haiyan could hit Quang Nam, we instructed local residents to dig underground sandbag bunkers,” said Nguyen Nhan, a major from Truong Phuong hamlet.
“There are now 25 bunkers of different sizes in the hamlet. A large bunker has a capacity of 40 to 50 people,” he added.
