Tuoi Tre News briefs you on some of the leading stories published today, May 9, in Vietnamese media.Politics -- Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday requested that China immediately end its construction and expansion on reef islands under Vietnam’s sovereignty in the East Vietnam Sea. “Vietnam has sufficient legal and historical evidence to affirm its sovereignty, sovereignty rights and jurisdiction in the East Sea in accordance with international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea,” the ministry’s spokesman, Le Hai Binh, said.Society -- A Japanese national, identified as Ichikawa, was fined VND4 million (US$185) for smoking in the restroom of an airliner of Vietnamese national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines while the plane was flying from Japan’s Nagoya to Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City on Thursday, the Southern Airports Authority, the fine issuer, reported the same day.     -- Another tamed elephant in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak died of exhaustion while serving tourists, the local elephant conservation center said on Friday.  The 43-year-old animal, named Na Lieng, owned by the Buon Don Tourism and Trading Joint Stock Company, died on May 7 after one month-treatment, the center said. Since the beginning of this year, five other tamed and one wild elephant have died across the province. -- Police in the southern province of Tra Vinh on Friday said they have arrested two sleeper bus drivers who were involved in a serious road accident that killed four people and severely injured two others on National Highway 53 in Cang Long District on Thursday, Both drivers were found to have sped and encroached on the wrong lane, leading to the accident, police said. -- The WHO representative in Vietnam, Nguyen Phuong Nam, has recommended that Vietnamese authorities apply criminal charges against drivers when their alcohol level is found exceeding the highest acceptable level under current regulations. A WHO report shows that 36.2 percent and 0.7 percent of the total number traffic accidents in Vietnam involved abuse of alcohol by men and women respectively, Nam said.  Business -- The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) on Friday announced a decision on changes to the operation of Dai Duong Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Ocean Bank). Accordingly, the rights and interests of all shareholders of Ocean Bank are terminated and SBV is to acquire all the shares in Ocean Bank for VND0 per share. Also, Ocean Bank will be transformed into a State-owned one-member limited liability bank under management of Vietinbank.  -- Five slaughterhouses in southern Bac Lieu province were found to have pumped water into the bodies of pigs –  at a rate of 10-20 liters of water per pig weighing about 100kg –  before selling them to customers to earn illegitimate profit from the false weight gain of the animals. The provincial agricultural authorities have fined each slaughterhouse VND5.5 million (US$254) for their fraud.Lifestyle -- American singer Demi Lovato will perform at YAN Beatfest 2015, an outdoor music festival to be held at Phu Tho Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday from 9 am to 11 pm, the singer said at a press briefing on Friday.Sport --  Real Madrid will host Valencia at Bernabeu Stadium in a match of the 36th round of the Spanish League Championship (La Liga) at 1 am on Sunday, May 10 (Vietnam time).
