Seven new COVID-19 infections were recorded in Vietnam on Tuesday, all in the epicenter Da Nang, the Ministry of Health said.
Five of the patients are family members, the health ministry elaborated, adding that they had had direct contact with patient No. 1,017 who had been confirmed on Monday.
The seven patients’ ages range from 16 to 46.
They are being isolated for treatment at Hoa Vang Field Hospital in Hoa Vang District, Da Nang.
The health ministry confirmed four recoveries on Tuesday, including two in Da Nang, one in northern Thai Binh Province, and one in central Quang Ngai Province.
Vietnam has recorded 1,029 coronavirus cases, including 687 domestic infections, since January 23, when the country detected the first-ever patient, according to the Ministry of Health.
Five hundred and ninety-two patients have recovered from the acute respiratory disease, while 27 have lost their lives, most having had serious comorbid conditions.
One separate patient died on August 12 after having tested negative for the virus four times.
Vietnam has registered 547 local infections since July 25, when Da Nang logged the first domestically transmitted case after the nation had spent 99 days recording no community transmission.
Most of such domestic cases have been traced back to Da Nang, a touristy city on the central coast.
Thirty patients are in a critical condition, with half facing death, the national committee on COVID-19 response said on Tuesday.
Vietnam is currently quarantining 71,821 people who had close contact with confirmed cases or entered the country from outbreak-battered regions.
