Vietnam reports highest-ever daily coronavirus infection increase

The Ministry of Health recorded 47,200 coronavirus infections across Vietnam on Sunday, alongside 13,414 recovered patients and 78 virus-linked mortalities.

Today’s case count is the sharpest-ever rise, as recorded since the virus first hit Vietnam in early 2020.

The newest cases, including eight imported and 47,192 domestic transmissions, were found in all 63 provinces and cities, the health ministry said, noting that 33,851 were infected in the community.

Hanoi documented 5,102 of the latest local cases, Bac Ninh Province 2,360, Phu Tho Province 1,981, Quang Ninh Province 1,980, Thai Nguyen Province 1,838, Hoa Binh Province 1,797, Nam Dinh Province 1,754, Hai Phong City 1,698, Vinh Phuc Province 1,692, Ninh Binh Province 1,556, Bac Giang Province 1,500, Nghe An Province 1,467, Lao Cai Province 1,360, Hai Duong Province 1,316, Ha Tinh Province 1,294, Yen Bai Province 1,275, Thanh Hoa Province 1,220, Binh Dinh Province 1,019, Thai Binh Province 1,015, Son La Province 1,007, Ho Chi Minh City 849, Da Nang 720, Quang Nam Province 697, Khanh Hoa Province 590, Lam Dong Province 435, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province 288, Thua Thien-Hue Province 224, Binh Duong Province 215, Binh Thuan Province 85, and Can Tho City 22.

Vietnam had detected 42,427 domestically-transmitted infections on Saturday.

The Southeast Asian country has logged 2,780,251 community transmissions in all its 63 provinces and cities since the fourth virus wave broke out on April 27, 2021. Above 2.27 million of them have recovered from COVID-19.

Ho Chi Minh City tops the caseload with 519,993 patients, followed by Binh Duong Province with 293,915, Hanoi with 198,546, Dong Nai Province with 100,529, Tay Ninh Province with 89,052, Ca Mau Province 58,399, Binh Phuoc Province 50,853, Hai Phong City 51,963, Da Nang with 48,838, Dong Thap Province with 47,795, Vinh Long Province 45,042, Can Tho City with 44,683, Long An Province with 41,968, An Giang Province with 35,776, Tien Giang Province with 35,438, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province with 34,112, and Binh Thuan Province with 30,585.

Vietnam found merely 1,570 locally-transmitted infections in total in the previous three waves.

The health ministry announced 13,414 hospital discharges on Sunday, elevating the national count to 2,281,434.

The toll has spiked to 39,501, with 78 pathogen-related deaths added today. 

Vietnam has registered 2,787,493 patients in total, including 205 imported and community-based Omicron infections, since the COVID-19 pandemic first hit the country in early 2020.

Healthcare workers have administered over 191 million vaccine doses, including 456,129 shots on Saturday, since inoculation was rolled out nationwide on March 8, 2021.

Over 174.6 million doses have been given to the adult demographic of the country’s 98 million people, including 70,871,973 first shots, 67,266,482 second doses, 13,335,678 additional primary jabs, and 21,692,469 boosters.    

A total of 16,756,669 shots have been injected into children aged 12-17, including 8,608,568 first doses and 8,148,101 second jabs.
