A 64-year-old woman from Thanh Hoa Province, north-central Vietnam died at the hospital after she was attacked by her pit bull last weekend.

D., 64, who resided in Hoang Phu Commune, Hoang Hoa District, died at Thanh Hoa General Hospital on Tuesday after two days of treatment, a source from the Hoang Phu People’s Committee confirmed on Wednesday.

Preliminary information showed that D. was feeding her pit bull on Sunday evening when the dog suddenly attacked her.

Family members and some neighbors quickly freed her and took her to the hospital for emergency treatment.

However, the victim died from her serious injuries at the infirmary two days later.

Family members said they had raised the pit bull for more than a year, adding that the canine weighs about 40 kilograms.

This was not the first time such a tragic incident had happened in Vietnam.

On July 22, an eight-year-old boy was fatally attacked by a 30-kilogram pit bull at a house in southern Binh Phuoc Province.

In May 2021, a pit bull in the Mekong Delta province of Long An mauled a man to death and injured his owner when the latter tried to intervene. The dog was then put down by local authorities.

That same month, a 28-month-old child from south-central Khanh Hoa Province was hospitalized with a serious leg wound caused by a neighbor’s pit bull.

The dog also bit off the knuckle of the boy’s father when he tried to save his son.
