Three people were killed while three others were saved after a fire broke out at a grocery store in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta early on Friday morning.
The incident took place at a grocery store in An Khanh Commune, Chau Thanh District, Dong Thap Province at around 0:30 am on Friday, the district police unit confirmed later the same day.
The venue is owned by 33-year-old Bui Thi Yen S. and her husband.
Two fire engines and multiple firefighters were mobilized to the scene and were able to put out the flames as of 2:45 am the same day.
A total of six people were inside the store at the time of the incident.
Officers managed to rescue three people, including S., her husband, and their son, via the emergency exit.
However, the remaining three victims were stuck inside and were killed.
The fire burned down most of the items inside the store, with damage estimated to be over VND4 billion (US$161,000).
Local authorities are working to determine the cause of the blaze and deal with the consequences.
