Vietnam’s Thai Binh Investment and Trading Corporation last Friday launched two projects in Cuba, including a laundry detergent factory and a solar energy park.

The Suchel TBV S.A. laundry detergent factory and the TBD solar park were developed in the Mariel Special Development Zone in Cuba’s Artemisa Province.

The event marks a hallmark in the partnership between Vietnam and Cuba and makes Thai Binh Investment and Trading Corporation the Vietnamese enterprise with the most investment projects in Cuba.

The laundry detergent factory was jointly developed by Cuba's Mercantile Society Industries Nexus S.A. and Thai Binh Detergent JSC, a unit of Thai Binh Investment and Trading Corporation.

The factory carries a price tag of US$17 million, covers 30,000 square meters of land, and has an annual capacity of 70,000 metric tons of washing powder and 20,000 metric tons of liquid detergent.

It is equipped with a modern production line which meets international standards.

The factory aims to serve the demands of consumers in Cuba and neighboring Southern American markets.

Meanwhile, the TBD solar energy park was developed by Thai Binh Investment and Trading Corporation and Dinh Tan Construction Investment Corporation.

Its main activities are designing, building, and operating its solar power plants, and providing design, construction, assembly, and maintenance services to local solar power plants.

The 20MW Solar Park, covering 33.6 hectares of land, has been connected to Cuba’s national grid and contributes significantly to the Latin American country’s industrialization and modernization.

“Thai Binh will expand the investment in clean energy [in Cuba] in the near future to reach 150 megawatts by 2024 and increase the investment in accordance with a road map in the following years,” a representative of the corporation said.

Over the past few years, the demand for consumer goods in Cuba has increased.

Thai Binh Investment and Trading Corporation’s napkin and tampon factory in Cuba has met 70 percent of Cuban people’s demands, Thai Binh Investment and Trading Corporation chairman Tran Ngoc Thuan said.

The Suchel - TBV factory can meet 100 percent of the needs of Cuban consumers and exports to other Latin American countries.

It also contributes to resolving labor issues by recruiting and training over 500 local laborers.

The figure is expected to rise further thanks to the development of the factory in the coming time, Thuan noted.

During the inauguration ceremony of the laundry detergent and solar park projects, representatives of the Vietnamese delegation and Isabel Martínez Ramírez, an executive of Suchel TBV S.A. factory, announced a donation of 24 metric tons of washing powder within a year to the medical center of Artemisa Province.

Tran Thanh Toan and Trinh Van Huyen, representatives of Thai Binh Green Power Investment Corporation, said the corporation would sponsor 5KWp rooftop solar panels for Mariel Orlando Santana General Hospital in Artemisa.

The laundry detergent and solar park projects were launched during Vietnamese National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue's visit to Cuba from April 18 to 23.

Cuba is the first destination on the top Vietnamese legislator’s trip to three Latin American countries Cuba, Argentina, and Uruguay between April 18 and 28.

He left Cuba and arrived in Argentina at 5:00 pm on Sunday (local time).
