An entire cleared site will be handed over for the execution of the second metro line project in Ho Chi Minh City in June as work on land clearance is 95 percent complete.

Metro line No. 2 will stretch from Ben Thanh Market in District 1 to Tham Luong Bridge in District 12.

Vice-chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Bui Xuan Cuong has written to the State Council for Acceptance of Construction Projects proposing that it consider adding the second metro line in the city to a list of projects set to be appraised by the council.

The council removed the second metro line project from the list in 2018 due to delayed work on main packages.

The Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR), the investor of the project, said that 95 percent of the land for the city’s second metro link has been cleared.

Workers are stepping up efforts to clear the rest so that the entire site can be handed over this month.

Besides, all affected underground utilities will be relocated in July to facilitate the construction of the second metro link.

The project's consulting service package is scheduled to undergo a bidding process in October.

Meanwhile, all the main packages will be bid on in 2025, with work on the project set to begin that year.

Spanning approximately 11 kilometers and traversing District 1, District 3, District 10, District 12, Tan Binh District, and Tan Phu District, the second metro line will feature nine underground stations and one above-ground station along its 9km underground segment and 2km elevated stretch.
