Vietnam, Indonesia to fight for SEA Games men’s football bronze medal

Vietnam, Indonesia to fight for SEA Games men’s football bronze medal

Monday, June 15, 2015, 12:04 GMT+7

The two semifinal losers, Vietnam and Indonesia, will today fight for a bronze medal in the men’s football event at the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore.

This will be the consolation award for either Vietnam, who lost 1-2 to Myanmar, or Indonesia, who were crushed 5-0 by Thailand in the semis on Saturday.

Vietnamese captain Que Ngoc Hai said after his training session yesterday that, “We left behind the loss and are looking toward the match with Indonesia.

“We will stage a strong performance.”

Hai promised that he will try his best in the game today because this is his last chance to take part in a SEA Games competition, which is only for under-23 players.

During their last few matches, Indonesia have not been strong in defense, and their style of play has mainly relied on star midfielder Evan Dimas.

It is forecast that coach Toshiya Miura of Vietnam will use the same lineup that played against Myanmar over the weekend to compete with Indonesia for third place.

That means striker Mac Hong Quan, who missed at least four clear chances in the loss to Myanmar, will likely be featured in the match today on the starting list.

The game will take place at 1:00 pm (Vietnam time).

The final match between Thailand and Myanmar will be played at 7:30 pm today.

Both games will be broadcast live on Vietnamese TV channel VTV6.
