Cruise ship Celebrity Solstice docked at Chan May Port in Thua Thien-Hue Province on Sunday morning, bringing over 2,700 foreign visitors to central Vietnam.

These passengers come from Britain, the United States, and France.

On the same day, the provincial Department of Tourism announced that the ship marked the inaugural luxury port call at the port in Phu Loc District for the year.

After its arrival, over 1,000 passengers disembarked from the cruise ship to start their trip to explore heritage sites and enjoy cuisine in Hue, Da Nang City, and famed Hoi An City in Quang Nam Province.

At the welcome ceremony, Nguyen Thanh Binh, vice-chairman of the provincial administration, and other officials gave flowers and gifts to the first cruise passengers.

The ship left the Thua Thien-Hue-based port on Sunday evening.

According to the provincial department, the port received 25 cruise ships that brought some 50,000 international passengers and sailors to the province and the central region in 2023.

The port is expected to welcome 32 cruise ships with a total of some 60,000 passengers on board in 2024.

Nguyen Van Phuc, director of the provincial department, said that Thua Thien-Hue Province looks to attract up to four million visitors this year, with domestic travelers expected to account for 60-70 percent of the total.

Tourism revenue is targeted at VND7,000-8,000 billion (US$288.7-330.4 million) in 2024 .
