Liu Ning, Secretary of the Communist Party of China Committee of China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, affirmed Guangxi’s commitment to tightening cooperation with Vietnamese locales during his meetings with top Vietnamese leaders in Hanoi on Wednesday.

Vietnam’s Party General Secretary and State President To Lam, along with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, hosted separate receptions for Liu, who is paying an official visit to Vietnam from August 26 to 30.

Party chief and State President To Lam underscored the importance of Liu's visit, highlighting its role in enhancing relations between Vietnam’s border regions and China.

Lam affirmed that the top leaders of both the Parties and countries place significant importance on the development of friendship and bilateral relations between the border provinces of Vietnam and China, particularly between Guangxi and Vietnam's northeastern provinces.

He commended Guangxi for leading in economic and trade relations with Vietnam and urged continued efforts to enhance cooperation mechanisms in areas such as trade, investment, and digital transformation between Guangxi and Vietnam's border provinces.

The state president emphasized the importance of continued efforts to manage and build a peaceful, stable, and cooperative Vietnam-China border.

He called for strengthening the friendship and development between the two nations, further solidifying the relationship between their Parties and countries.

Liu affirmed Guangxi’s readiness to closely collaborate with Vietnam’s border provinces, boost friendly exchanges, and promote mutually beneficial cooperation in economy, trade, investment, tourism, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

During his meeting with the Guangxi Party leader, PM Chinh praised Liu for his repeated visits to Vietnam since taking office.

The prime minister noted that these visits underscored Guangxi's strong dedication to enhancing ties with Vietnamese localities.

Two-way trade between Vietnam and Guangxi surpassed US$36 billion in 2023, marking a 29.2-percent year-on-year increase.

Vietnam has been Guangxi’s largest trading partner for 25 consecutive years, with the autonomous region’s total investment in the Southeast Asian country exceeding $1.83 billion.

PM Chinh expressed his hope for continued high-level cooperation between both sides.

He emphasized the importance of accelerating expressway and high-speed railway projects, such as the Lang Son - Hanoi and Mong Cai - Ha Long - Hai Phong routes linking with Guangxi while bolstering cooperation in upgrading smart customs and smart border gates.

PM Chinh also called on Guangxi to facilitate the import of Vietnamese goods into China’s inland regions and to third countries, encouraging Guangxi-based businesses to invest in Vietnam, particularly in such sectors as green agriculture, clean energy, and sustainable development.

He suggested that both sides explore models for cross-border economic cooperation zones and collaborate on effective border management.

Liu also suggested leveraging the unique advantages of both sides to enhance connectivity through Guangxi to mainland China and third countries, as well as to connect with ASEAN countries via Vietnam.

He underlined the need for both sides to scale up and enhance their trade and investment partnerships, improve customs clearance efficiency by deploying smart border gates, and establish cooperation in seaport, electricity, digital economy, and digital connection spheres.

During his visit to the Southeast Asian country, the Chinese official also met with Nguyen Van Nen, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, on Monday and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son on Tuesday.
