Grab Vietnam sacks driver for supposedly kicking passengers out of car

Grab Vietnam sacks driver for supposedly kicking passengers out of car

Sunday, July 15, 2018, 14:28 GMT+7

A Vietnamese GrabCar driver who reportedly forced a female passenger and her crying child out of his car partway after insulting the second has been fired by his company, Grab Vietnam.

The ride-hailing firm permanently deactivated the driver’s account on its platform on Saturday afternoon, following a customer’s complaint.

A woman known as L.T.H.H. said that at around 6:30 pm on Friday, she and her child got into the vehicle of a GrabCar driver whose service she had booked.

After the car started moving, the driver asked H. multiple questions about the route, its difficulty and distance to the destination, and he was seemingly unwilling to carry her but did not say that openly, she recalled.

After a while, the driver hurled harsh language at her seven-year-old, who was then frightened and began crying, although she claimed the child had done nothing wrong.

The driver let the passengers out of the vehicle, citing the noise caused by the child, H. said.

Grab Vietnam identified that driver as Vuu Thanh Tung and contacted H. to ensure her rights as a customer.

The company did not reveal Tung’s side of the story.

The latest incident involving the firm was reported in local media in mid-June, when one of its drivers was caught on camera verbally offending a female passenger, saying she failed to greet him when getting into his vehicle.

Since taking the helm of the ride-hailing industry after Uber’s exit from Vietnam in April, Grab has received a series of complaints from its customers about exorbitant fares, poor quality, and unreasonable cancelations by drivers.
