Heavy rain pounded Hanoi for around two hours on Sunday evening, turning several city streets into rivers.
Rainfall measured in the downtown and suburban districts of the Vietnamese capital city varied between 40mm and 80mm, according to data from Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company.
Some areas with precipitation exceeding 90mm included Van Ho Street in Hai Ba Trung District, Yen Nghia Street in Ha Dong District, and Truc Bach Street in Ba Dinh District.
Several road sections in Ba Dinh District were submerged under 0.1-0.2m of water.
The National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting forecast that northern Vietnam, including Hanoi, and parts of central Vietnam would experience showers and thunderstorms on Monday, with rainfall reaching between 20mm and 40mm.
The national weather agency warned of possible hailstorms, whirlwinds, wind gusts, and lightning strikes during heavy downpours, in addition to flash floods in rivers, streams, landslides in mountainous areas, and flooding in low-lying locations.
