Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper has announced some planned programs to help restore the lives of people hurt by typhoon Yagi in northern Vietnam, using contributions from readers, businesses, and organizations.
Depending on the contributions, Tuoi Tre will carry out the programs as follows:
1. Providing school supplies to students (VND500,000 [US$20.4] in cash and VND500,000 in kind per student) and equipment for schools (depending on the schools’ losses and scale)
2. Awarding scholarships worth VND3-5 million ($122.2-203.8) each to prevent students hit by typhoon Yagi from giving up on studying and offering aid valued at VND5-10 million ($203.8-407.7) for each teacher in extremely difficult circumstances
3. Providing livelihood, specifically seedlings, breeds, and tools, worth VND10-20 million ($407.7-815) to each household, depending on their specific circumstances
4. Repairing schools damaged by the typhoon and building new ones
5. Other sustainable, fundamental, practical, and effective support programs

Tuoi Tre will launch the programs soon, use readers’ contributions effectively, and invite some units to visit people in typhoon-hit areas with the newspaper.
The newspaper has opened a donation channel to support those who have suffered huge losses in this storm.
Thousands of readers, enterprises, and organizations have made donations to people affected by the storm through Tuoi Tre.
Tuoi Tre will publicize the readers’ donations in its printed and online publications.

Contributions can also be made in person at the Tuoi Tre newspaper headquarters at 60A Hoang Van Thu Street, Ward 9, Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City, or at 12 Pham Ngoc Thach Street, Vo Thi Sau Ward, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City.

The newspaper will work with local authorities in affected areas and relevant agencies to review and choose beneficiaries and hand over the donations to them.

Super typhoon Yagi and the subsequent floods and landslides have wreaked havoc on many localities, causing over 350 to die and go missing while injuring thousands of others, since the storm made landfall in northern Vietnam on September 7, according to the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Yagi has also blown off the roofs of over 230,000 houses, schools, and medical centers, while flooding 70,000 houses and 190,000 hectares of rice.
