People in Ho Chi Minh City can enjoy fireworks shows and admire the beauty of orchids at an orchid festival in celebration of Reunification Day (April 30) and International Workers’ Day (May 1).
These are among a host of activities set to take place during the upcoming holiday in the southern metropolis, said Bui Xuan Duc, a representative of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports said at a recent press briefing.
Workers in Vietnam are entitled to a five-day holiday lasting from April 29 to May 3 to celebrate Hung Kings' Commemoration Day (April 29), Reunification Day, and International Workers’ Day.
City dwellers can watch the fireworks shows at Dam Sen Amusement Park in District 11 and the Saigon River Tunnel in Thu Duc City between 9:00 pm and 9:15 pm on April 30.
Besides, a orchid festival, one of the 21 major events in the city this year, will take place at Tao Dan Park in District 1 from April 28 to May 2, according to Nguyen Huu Hoai Phu, deputy director of the city’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The biennial festival is expected to honor orchid brands and products, Phu added.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development also sought to cooperate with the Department of Culture and Sports to develop and promote the city’s orchid farming business.
Also, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development will request the municipal administration to formulate policies supporting orchid growers, Phu said.
Aside from the fireworks shows and the orchid festival, the city will organize art performances at Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street in District 1, a bicycle race, ceremonies offering incense in tribute to late State Presidents Ho Chi Minh and Ton Duc Thang, and others.
