Young volunteers from Ho Chi Minh City completed the decoration of classrooms with elegant drawings, constructed a playground for Laotian students, and officially handed over these facilities to Kilomet Elementary School No. 3 in Samakkixay District, located in Attapeu Province, Laos, on Saturday afternoon.

The activity was part of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union’s 2024 summer volunteer campaign in Laos.

“The transfigured classrooms and the playground were gifts presented to Laos students by the young in Ho Chi Minh City,” said Truong Tan Nghiep, head of the group of volunteers participating in the campaign.

“The playground will give Laotian students a wide and airy space for playing at school after classes.

“We hope that our support for Laotian students can contribute to cementing the friendship between the Ho Chi Minh City youth and young people in Attapeu."

Culivong Cotnuxon, representative of the Education and Sports Division in Samakkixay, expressed his gratitude to the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union for the meaningful activity.

“I hope that young Vietnamese will offer more support to Attapeu Province in the coming time,” he said.

As one of the participating volunteers, Tran Thi Hoa Ha from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts said that was her first time to join a summer volunteer program.

Staying in Laos for a week, Ha joined other volunteers in doing drawings on walls to transfigure the classrooms at the elementary school.

Besides, she and other young volunteers delivered medicines and gifts to needy Laotians.

“I was delighted to lend a helping hand to Laotian students and other locals," she said.

“I will take part in more volunteer programs to support more children in Laos."

The group of young volunteers from Ho Chi Minh City also gave 50 backpacks to disadvantaged children in Laos.

As many as 120 volunteers from Ho Chi Minh City, including nurses, doctors, and university lecturers, started their journey to Laos on June 15.
