Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper on Wednesday that he respects Vietnam’s green transition steps as this journey is not easy at all.

“We realize that Vietnam is seriously focusing on green transition,” he underlined.

He started his two-day Vietnam visit on Wednesday at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Bui Thanh Son.

Lithuania aims high for renewable energy development in the European Union.

Accordingly, the nation’s green energy consumption will have accounted for 45 percent of its total power use by 2023.

International investment and aid packages will enter Vietnam for green transition projects, said Landsbergis.

Numerous Lithuanian firms are keen on investments, so some might contribute to Vietnam’s efforts in green transition, he added.

The Lithuanian minister said that he would provide Vietnam with information and knowledge about liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports as the country has 10 years of experience in operating LNG warehouses.

Lithuania and Vietnam established diplomatic ties in 1992.

Vietnam is one of Lithuania’s key partners in Southeast Asia, Landsbergis said.

He also expected the Vietnamese government to join hands with the Lithuanian side to deepen bilateral partnership, mainly in the energy, agriculture, information technology, and education spheres.

Lithuania has received a sheer number of Vietnamese students over the past few years, hoping that it will attract more young Vietnamese people to contribute to driving up the European labor market, he said.

The Lithuanian minister was impressed by Vietnam’s dynamic lifestyle, expecting to return to the Southeast Asian nation in the future to take a stroll along its streets and drink coffee.
