The consul general of India in Ho Chi Minh City and the chief editor of Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper have exchanged ideas to enhance and foster cooperation between Vietnam and India across various sectors.

Tuoi Tre's Editor-in-Chief Le The Chu and Dr. Madan Mohan Sethi, Indian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, believe that there are opportunities to boost people-to-people understanding, consequently bolstering bilateral cooperation.

During their meeting at the newspaper’s main office in the city on Tuesday, Sethi said that in the last three years he has visited many places in Vietnam and seen its beauty as well as development potential.

Recognizing parallels between Vietnam and India, notably a youthful population, he acknowledged the positive trajectory of their relationship spanning over 50 years.

Both nations are experiencing favorable development, with companies from each side actively exploring opportunities for mutual investments.

More than 300,000 Indian tourists came to Vietnam last year and that could increase to one million in the near future, the consul general said.

As a doctor before becoming a diplomat, Sethi expressed his views on the potential for developing medical tourism in Vietnam.

In India, the influx of over one billion tourists from around the world signifies a growing trend of seeking a blend of travel experiences and medical care there.

Sethi aired his belief that now is a golden time for the two countries to cooperate in education and training, given the abundance of young populations on both sides.

Exploring collaboration in technology holds immense potential, particularly as India stands out as a leading nation in information technology and digital transformation, he said, adding that his country exported over US$220 billion worth of IT products last year.

The avenue for partnership in technology between the two countries is vast, the diplomat said.

He underscored the pivotal role of media in facilitating a better understanding of Vietnam among the Indian people.

He expressed hope for the initiation of cooperative programs soon to enhance and further promote the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Chief editor Chu said that there is a growing interest among Vietnamese people to travel to India.

Given that Tuoi Tre has a significant readership among the youth, he saw this as an opportunity to further strengthen the connection between the two sides.

Vietnam can also learn from India's socio-economic development. As Vietnam is focusing on information technology and semiconductors, India can be a role model and supporter on human resource training.

"We aspire to serve as a positive bridge, fortifying the relationship between Vietnam and India,” Chu remarked.

“Through our efforts to provide comprehensive information to readers and businesses, we aim to create avenues for increased cooperation, opening up additional opportunities for both countries.”

Both sides also deliberated on establishing a more robust communication channel between Tuoi Tre and the Indian Consulate General to impart more useful information to the public.
