Typhoon Yagi, the third storm to batter Vietnam this year, claimed four lives in Hanoi as of Sunday morning.
The death toll has been confirmed by the municipal administration.
The Vietnamese capital had earlier reported only three deaths caused by falling trees before and during the typhoon, which weakened into a tropical depression after devastating several northern Vietnamese provinces and cities.
The storm brought down 25,156 trees, with the worst-hit areas being Hoang Mai, Long Bien, Gia Lam, Dong Anh, and Nam Tu Liem Districts, according to the Hanoi Green Trees Park Co. Ltd.
During the typhoon, more than 25,000 trees citywide were uprooted or damaged.
Several districts in suburban Hanoi experienced landslides due to heavy rainfall and strong winds.
Yagi also caused widespread damage to infrastructure facilities, homes, roads, and power lines, displacing residents and resulting in the loss of livestock and poultry.

Thach That District:
+ Erosion struck 150 square meters of land in Yen Binh and Thach Xa Communes.
Chuong My District:
+ Erosion spread five meters of the Bui River dyke.
+ More than 2,700 meters of rural roads are waterlogged.
+ Thirty plus homes, five villages, one community center, and two historical sites are waterlogged.
+ 1,400 square meters of livestock shelters collapsed.
+ 10,400 roofs have blown off or sustain permanent damage.
+ 115 power poles were knocked down.
Quoc Oai District:
+ Twenty meters of collapsed roads
+ Ten houses with roofs missing
+ Two toppled-over power poles
Ba Vi District:
+ Damage to the Red River dyke section in Co Do Commune
+ Thirteen power poles were knocked down.
+ Residents of seven households evacuated before their homes were submerged in water.
+ Eight fishing boats sank in Co Do and Chu Minh Communes.
+ 2,030 poultry were killed.
