Vietnam will deploy an attacking formation in the final match with Myanmar at 7:30pm today at the Southeast Asian U-22 Football Championship, or Hassanal Bolkiah Cup, which is being held in Brunei from August 8-23.
Both Vietnam and Myanmar sent their national U-19 teams to the tournament.
Vietnam’s coach, French national Guillaume Graechen, told his players the day before the match, “We must launch attacks and score early goals to settle the match.”
Yesterday he trained his midfielders to coordinate in order to pierce the rival defensive wall.
He admitted that the match will be difficult for both sides.
“We promise we will play with full effort to make the game interesting,” he added.
“I know the Myanmarese team has recently made much progress, and the Vietnamese have as well.
“My team had training sessions in Europe and Japan in the last two years,” coach Graechen said.
Meanwhile, the German coach Gerd Friedrich of Myanmar led his team on a month-long training course in Germany and the Czech Republic in July.
Last year, the U-19 Vietnam team beat U-19 Myanmar 3-1 at the Southeast Asian U-19 Football Championship held in Indonesia. But in April, the Myanmarese team beat U-19 Japan 1-0, while the U-19 Vietnam squad was beaten 7-0 by the Japanese side in friendly matches.
Myanmar beat Malaysia 2-0 in the semis to advance to the final game today. Myanmar is also the only unbeaten team in the group stage of the event.
The match will be live aired on the television channel VTV6 at 7:30pm today.
