Vietnam maintain their 95th position globally, but they have made progress to be among the top 15 teams in Asia in the recently-released FIFA world rankings.
The cumulative score of the Vietnamese national men’s football team currently stands at 1,229.69, according to the FIFA updates announced on Thursday.
That includes 8.54 points earned in two 1-0 friendly wins over Hong Kong and Syria during FIFA Days in June.
Despite the fact that the increased score has not been sufficient to elevate Vietnam’s ranking from the 95th place since April, there has been a reduction in the score gap with the team positioned just above them, Syria in the 94th position with 1,246.75.
Notably, the higher score moved Vietnam from the 16th position to the 15th place in Asia.
Within Southeast Asia, the Vietnamese continue to maintain their top spot, while Thailand come in second in the region and have also improved by climbing one notch to reach the 113th place in the world rankings.
Two other teams in Southeast Asia, the Philippines and Malaysia, have also made improvements in their rankings to 135th and 137th, respectively.
Argentina, France, and Brazil remain in the top three positions of the FIFA rankings.
The next ranking update is anticipated to be announced by FIFA on July 20.
